The goals of physical rehabilitation treatment of your pet may include:

  • Improving your pet’s quality of life.
  • Facilitating and accelerating your pet’s functional recovery following surgery.
  • Preventing potentially painful and disabling complications caused by surgery or chronic conditions, such as arthritis, spinal disorders, and obesity.
  • Promoting your pet’s physical and mental well-being.
  • Reducing the risk of injury to your pet due to de-conditioning and repetitive movement

As a client of FOR PAWS REHABILITATION, you become an integral part of our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team. This team includes your pet’s primary care veterinarian, the veterinary specialists who might be involved in the care of your pet, our For Paws Rehabilitation Therapist, you and most importantly, your pet. One of our priorities is for open and regular communication with you and the veterinary professionals involved in the care of your pet.

After an extensive evaluation by the  Physical Rehabilitation Team, we will develop an individualized program for you and your pet that may include:

  • Electrical stimulation modalities, for muscle strengthening, neuromuscular re-education, & relief of pain and inflammation.
  • Aquatic therapy, utilizing the Westcoast Water Walker Underwater Treadmill.
  • Gait training, including cart and assistive device prescription.
  •  Manual therapy techniques, including joint and soft tissue mobilization.
  •  Thermal modalities, such as heat and cold
  • Formulation of and instruction in an individualized home exercise program.
  • Functional facilitation, for improved walking, running, jumping, and transitions to and from sitting and standing
  • Therapeutic exercise, for improved range of motion, strength, and balance.

For decades, rehabilitation has been universally accepted as a standard of care in human medicine, only recently, however, have the benefits of rehabilitation been recognized in veterinary medicine.  Physical Rehabilitation might be an appropriate complementary treatment for your pet in coordination with the medical management provided by your primary care & specialty veterinarians.
